Receiving our frozen sourdough loaves & buns

Receiving frozen sourdough loaves

Whether you’re ordering sourdough shipped or for local pick up or delivery, we’ve found that freezing it allows us to preserve the quality. Our frozen sourdough loaves are allowed to cool at room temp, then they are quickly vacuum sealed and frozen. We’ve found that following the Whole Loaf Reheat instructions brings the loaf back to as close to peak freshness as possible!

Depending on distance and shipping option you’ve chosen your loaves may arrive fully thawed. If a loaf arrived fully thawed and you’re not ready to eat it, keep it sealed and put it in the freezer until you are ready.

It is best to thaw what you’re going to eat in the next 2 days or so on your counter and refreeze the rest. Loaves can be thawed and refrozen. For the best experience always bring your sourdough back to life by doing a full reheat or toasting slices, see reheating instructions below.

Sourdough olive sandwich

Frozen instructions

Keep the loaf sealed in its packaging and allow it to fully thaw on the counter or in the fridge!

Whole loaf reheat

Preheat to 425°F

Spritz entire loaf with water

Bake 6-12 minutes. 6 minutes to crisp, 12 minutes to heat thoroughly

Toasting brings individual slices back to peak freshness without the need for a whole loaf reheat!

Buns and rolls do not need to be reheated, if they are allowed to fully thaw to room temperature inside their sealed packaging they will become soft, fluffy and delicious! The below two methods are for if you'd like the warm bun experience.

Buns reheat

Defrost method (our preferred method)

Defrost on counter or in the fridge. Heat at 325°F for 5-7 minutes, until buns are warm & soft

Heat from frozen method

Heat directly from frozen at 325°F for 15-20 minutes, until buns are warm & soft

Loaves and buns can be refrozen. If your loaf arrived fully thawed and you are not ready to eat it, keep it sealed and put it in the freezer until you are ready.

Half loaves do not need as much time to reheat as full loaves. Use the same reheat process but adjust the time accordingly.

Keep an eye on your bread while reheating. Every oven is different.
