For those of you not in our local pick up and delivery area – as much as we’d love to get you bread that is fresh out of the oven, we’ve found that freezing it preserves the quality and allows us to ship sourdough around the country. Our frozen sourdough loaves are allowed to cool at room temp, then they are quickly vacuum sealed and frozen. We’ve found that following the Whole Loaf Reheat instructions brings the loaf back to as close to peak freshness as possible!
Depending on distance and shipping option you’ve chosen your loaves may arrive in one of three states: still frozen, partially defrosted, or fully defrosted but chilled as if it was in the fridge.
It is best to thaw what you’re going to eat in the next 2 days or so on your counter and refreeze the rest. Loaves can be thawed and refrozen. For the best experience always bring your sourdough back to life by doing a full reheat or toasting slices.
Your loaves should arrive in one of the three states mentioned above. If they arrive room temperature or warm, we did not adequately preserve freshness through shipping. Please contact us and we will make things right.
Reheating instructions
Always keep an eye on your bread while reheating, every oven is different!
Whole loaf reheat
- Preheat oven to 425°F
- Spritz entire loaf with water
- Place loaf on center oven rack
- Bake 6-12 minutes*
- *Bake around 6 minutes to crisp, 12 minutes to heat thoroughly
The above processes will also work for halves of loaves. Keep an eye on it and adjust your time in the oven accordingly. It shouldn’t need the full reheat time of a whole loaf to be heated thoroughly.
